Tailored for a Princess

Andrew Ramroop, Creative Director at Maurice Sedwell, made several tailored pieces for Princess Diana. He was unaware she would wear the midnight blue jacket for the BBC Panorama interview in November 1995, watched by 23 million people in Britain alone. From the many options available to her, she chose that one.

Princess Diana also wore a short-sleeved green Ottoman piece during her official visit to Nepal in 1993, another Maurice Sedwell commission, a quiet testament to the relationship between a tailor and a client who trusted his work.

Andrew still has the Caribbean Turquoise suede coat he made for her. It hangs in the shop on Savile Row. It was completed and ready for delivery. She never had the chance to wear it. She passed away in August 1997 before it could reach her.

This very special creation has remained at Maurice Sedwell ever since, alongside another cream silk tuxedo with black shawl collar that was still in progress when she died.
