The Gold Medal That Built a Legacy 1956

In 1956, Maurice Sedwell entered the Tailor and Cutter Academy competition, the national championship for tailoring in the United Kingdom, and won the Gold Medal for the Men's Lounge Suit, competing against the finest tailors in the country.

The Lounge Suit, known today as the business suit, is the cornerstone of a tailor's craft. To win the Gold Medal was to be recognised by the most rigorous judges in the trade as the best in Britain.

That recognition changed everything. Maurice Sedwell, established on Fleet Street in 1938, naturally gravitated to Savile Row, the street where the world's finest tailors practise their trade. The house has been there ever since.
