The Opening of the Savile Row Academy, 2008

In January 2008, Andrew Ramroop opened the doors of the Savile Row Academy, the first centre of learning dedicated to training aspiring tailors on Savile Row itself.

It was a landmark moment for the craft. Savile Row had always passed its knowledge from cutter to apprentice, from maker to student, one at a time, in the back rooms of its houses. There was no formal institution. There was no structured pathway. There was only the willingness of those who knew to teach those who wanted to learn.

Andrew changed that.

The Academy was built on a simple conviction that the highest standards of bespoke tailoring could only survive if they were taught properly to people who were serious about mastering them. It opened within Maurice Sedwell itself, at 19 Savile Row. Eight individuals were selected for three years of intensive training, with one goal: to become the elite tailors of the future.

In January 2018, the Savile Row Academy rebranded as the Savile Row Bespoke Academy (SRBA™), reflecting a decade of growth and its standing as a formal institution of tailoring excellence.
