Mayor of London - Trailblazer Award, 2006

In 2006, the Mayor of London presented Andrew Ramroop with the historical Trailblazer Award for Achievement and Distinction in Fashion and Tailoring. The award ceremony was held at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).

The award acknowledged what Andrew had built at Maurice Sedwell on Savile Row, a house that had not only maintained the highest standards of bespoke tailoring but had done so while making history. As the first person of colour to own a tailoring house on Savile Row, Andrew had not simply followed a tradition. He had broadened it.

To be named a Trailblazer by the Mayor of London was a recognition that his work had significance beyond the craft, that it had changed what Savile Row looked like, and who it belonged to.

It was a fitting award for a man who had been breaking new ground since he first arrived in Britain at just 17 years old, wearing a suit he had made himself.
