Andrew Ramroop OBE on BBC Desert Island Discs

Andrew Ramroop OBE joined BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs in July 2022, speaking with presenter Lauren Laverne about a life defined by craft, perseverance and ambition.

He grew up in a remote village in Trinidad, sewed his first garment at nine years old, and left for the UK at 17 — inspired by stories of Savile Row as the pinnacle of the craft. He found work on the Row, completed a degree at the London College of Fashion, and eventually took over Maurice Sedwell when Maurice retired.

Awarded an OBE in 2009 and named UK Black Business Person of the Year in 2017, his castaway's favourite was Bridge Over Troubled Water.
